I began a sort of painting instruction manual almost ten years ago. Back then, I had no idea how to write or publish a book–I had never even heard of indie authors, much less ever considered becoming one myself. I suppose I imagined it to be an online course that I would put on my blog and leave it at that.
I had been teaching classes in digital media, and I simply missed good old fashioned painting. That’s what I really wanted to teach. What I really loved.
But, I got busy with life, abandoned the project, and only thought of it in passing on occasion. Oh, well…
Fast forward to April of 2018, and some extensive self-discovery work to heal from a horrible, two-year-long divorce. Most of my progress was recorded in paint, and I realized how important the act of painting had been to my healing process. Read my earlier posts about my return from the dead, Some Things Can’t Be Left Alone, and the new art series that quickly followed, Mean Greeting Cards.
After blogging about my first three Mean Greeting Cards, I remembered my painting instruction project!
Of course, by this time I had already published two fiction books, so the Indie Author world was no longer a great mystery to me. I dug through my archives and found that about half of this new possible book had already been written or photographed.
And now I had an even better reason for producing a painting instruction book: I wanted to help others gain inner wisdom and courage through creative expression, just as I had. You don’t have to be an artist to benefit from the well known healing power of art. In my darkest days, I certainly did not feel like a trained artist in the slightest.
Staring at a blank white page was more than daunting, and inspiration seemed far in the distance. Over the years, however, I’ve developed methods to get through that feeling and let the art flow no matter what the emotional landscape. The result has been incredibly healing–the perfect way to release pain and fear, and to reorient myself for future happiness.
Let me share my painting experience with you, and teach you how to find your own path to healing and self-discovery–and very likely beautiful artwork!
Look for my new book to be out in late summer or early fall of this year, 2018. Follow this blog or sign up for my mailing list HERE for sneak peaks, excerpts, give aways, and news. Visit my contact page HERE for social network links,
